The Pattern That Reveals Who We Really Are.

Circa 1978 – Belize

Most people spend their lives trying to explain who they are.

The truth is they do not have to.

The evidence already exists.

It exists in the choices they make, the skills they develop, the problems they solve, the hardships they endure, and the things they create.

Over time, every human being leaves behind a pattern.

That pattern is coherence.

Coherence is the alignment between our actions, values, interests, and experiences. It reveals who we actually are, not who we claim to be.

Whether people realize it or not, their lives tell a story. Their habits tell a story. Their work tells a story.

The coherence is already there.

It Began Before I Knew It

I was born on August 10, 1978, in Belize City, British Honduras.

At the time, British Honduras remained under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom. My parents were British subjects (UKC), and three years later the territory would become the independent nation of Belize on September 21, 1981.

Long before I understood citizenship, immigration, law, or identity, my life had already begun at the intersection of multiple worlds.

Born under one framework.

Naturalized into another through Belizean independence.

Raised in another after immigrating to the United States in September 1986.

Now, decades later, I find myself back in Belize building the next chapter of my life.

Looking back, that feels remarkably coherent.

The global perspective I carry today did not appear suddenly.

It was there from the beginning.

Music Was Never A Hobby

As a young man, I became obsessed with music.

Not casually.

Seriously.

Over the next thirty years, that passion would grow into a catalog exceeding fourteen thousand registered works through BMI as a songwriter and publisher.

That number is not an opinion.

It is evidence.

Nobody accidentally spends three decades creating intellectual property.

Nobody accidentally develops that level of discipline and consistency.

The catalog tells a story about who I have always been.

A creator.

A builder.

A storyteller.

A student of the craft.

Technology Revealed The Same Pattern

The same curiosity that drove me into music eventually drove me into technology.

For more than twenty years, I worked as a software engineer, architect, consultant, and strategist.

Many people see music and technology as separate disciplines.

I never did.

Both require creativity.

Both require structure.

Both require problem solving.

Both require continuous learning.

The same mind that built songs built systems.

The same mind that analyzed music analyzed technology.

The medium changed.

The person did not.

That is coherence.

March 21, 2016

Then came March 21, 2016.

My life changed dramatically.

Within days, I lost my freedom, my career, and access to my son.

Eventually, I would spend more than six years in Arizona state custody before being released on June 5, 2023, followed by a brief period in federal immigration detention before returning home to Belize.

Many people assume adversity changes who you are.

I believe adversity reveals who you are.

Because despite everything that happened, I continued doing what I had always done.

I learned.

I studied.

I wrote.

I researched.

I analyzed.

I created.

During those years, I read hundreds of books covering history, philosophy, psychology, business, technology, economics, government, and law.

My book collection

What began as necessity became transformation.

I developed a deep understanding of legal principles, constitutional law, procedure, evidence, and human rights—not from a classroom, but through direct experience and relentless study.

It was a trial by fire.

Yet even there, the same pattern remained.

The learner remained.

The strategist remained.

The builder remained.

The creator remained.

Another discipline was simply added to the list.

The Record Speaks

One lesson I have learned is that coherence removes the need for endless explanations.

The record speaks.

The work speaks.

The consistency speaks.

If someone claims to be resilient, adversity will reveal whether that is true.

If someone claims to be a creator, their body of work will reveal whether that is true.

If someone claims to be a student, their pursuit of knowledge will reveal whether that is true.

This applies to all of us.

Every person leaves behind evidence.

Every person develops a pattern.

Whether they acknowledge it or not.

Whether they like what it reveals or not.

The coherence exists.

June 2026

Today, at forty-seven years old, I find myself in a chapter that feels both new and familiar.

I am back in Belize.

I am building businesses.

Expanding music catalogs.

Creating intellectual property.

Developing opportunities.

Many people would call this success.

What I see is coherence.

I see a boy born in British Honduras.

A child raised in America.

A musician.

A software engineer.

A father.

A businessman.

A strategist.

A survivor.

A lifelong learner.

When I look back, I no longer see disconnected events.

I see one continuous story.

A story about learning.

A story about adaptation.

A story about resilience.

A story about creation.

A story about perseverance.

What Coherence Means To Me

At this stage of my life, coherence means understanding that nothing was wasted.

Not the victories.

Not the failures.

Not the lessons.

Not the setbacks.

Every chapter contributed something.

Every experience revealed something.

Every obstacle refined something.

Looking back across nearly five decades—from British Honduras in 1978, to Belizean independence in 1981, to immigration in 1986, through thirty years of music, twenty years of technology, years of adversity, and ultimately returning home to Belize—I see one coherent life.

A life built on learning.

A life built on creating.

A life built on adapting.

A life built on overcoming.

And perhaps that is the greatest lesson coherence teaches all of us.

The truth of who we are is already visible.

Not in what we say.

Not in what we claim.

But in the pattern our lives reveal.

The evidence has always been there.

Until Next Time…

I Am,
